My wife and I love hanging out and in around our swimming pool. Cleaning it is another story. Fortunately with a screened enclosure it's not to difficult or time consuming but, I'm incredibly lazy plus I just like having stuff, especially for the swimming pool.

While automatic pool cleaners are available from several different manufacturers you have to take into account the size and type of pool you'll be cleaning. Some swimming pools have a built in vacuum connection which is a pretty simple hookup but, most of us still have to make the connection externally. My pool doesn't have a built in connection (I wish) so, I have to go through the skimmer.

In the coming weeks I'm going to be checking out Aquabot pool cleaners, the electronic Dolphin pool cleaner because it's basically a robot and should be fun to watch, of course a Hayward pool vacuum, and a Kreepy Krauly pool cleaner because I want to be thorough in my research.

At this writing I don't know a heck of a lot about automatic swimming pool vacuum cleaners but, with summer fast approaching pool use is gonna increase especially since we installed the heat pump and I plan on enjoying the pool instead of worrying about the maintenance.

Swimming Pool Heat Pumps

My wife and I enjoy our backyard swimming pool so much that, this year we decided to invest in a swimming pool heater. Although we live in southwest Florida our swimming season lasts about five months out of the year. Usually from the end of May to the end of October. Our pool is surrounded by a screened pool enclosure. Great for keeping bugs out but, even though we live in sunny Florida, the screened cage prevents the water from coming up to swimming temperature (80 degrees for us) until at least Memorial Day. Since we live in sunny Florida we decided to go with a swimming pool heat pump.

Swimming pool heat pumps in my opinion are the best and most efficient way to go if you live in a warm climate. The word on a heat pump is, they're not that great at heating when the temperature is below 40 degrees. We don't have many days below 40 degrees down here. That's why swimming pool heat pumps are the best option for the warm climates.

Being a little familiar with Hayward pool products I first looked into a Hayward pool heater. Hayward pool heaters are top notch but they're a little pricey. So, I decided to get an estimate from the guy that remarcited our pool. His own pool is heated with a Hayward pool heater but, his recommendation to us was a Summit swimming pool heat pump. Summit manufactures swimming pool heat pumps for any size pool and they carry a 5 year labor warranty, a 10 year compressor warranty, and a limited lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is made from titanium which is resistant to the swimming pool chemicals.

I settled on the Summit 5T heat pump as the best for our pool, plus our guy got it for us at wholesale and agreed to do the installation at a very reasonable price. The model 5T heat pump puts out 115,000 BTUs and will heat a swimming pool up to 800 square feet. Our pool is 464 square feet so, the Summit 5T was an excellent choice.

Installation took about four hours including wiring. The wiring is the most expensive part of installing a pool heater. After getting everything hooked up the electrician walked me through the start up and settings. Took about 5 minutes. With the touchpad on the face of the heat pump you have settings to select pool or spa and the temp setting you want. The pool setting goes up to 95 degrees and the spa setting will go up to 105 degrees. Selecting the pool option I set the temperature at 92 degrees. This was on a Wednesday evening and the water temperature in my pool was 68 degrees. Way to cold for swimming. By Friday afternoon the water temperature was at 86 degrees and Friday night my wife and I were swimming. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention it was March 10th. Not even Spring yet and we're swimming. At night.

Our swimming season is now extended from March to November. A full 9 months that we can enjoy our swimming pool. The only other item I need to purchase will be a cover to prevent heat and water loss. A pool heater is a must have if you enjoy your swimming pool as much as we do and swimming pool heat pumps are the best and most efficient way to heat your pool especially if you live in a warm climate.

Privacy Policy And Contact Information

PRIVACY POLICY
PRIVACY

I respect your privacy and I am committed to safeguarding your privacy while online at this site swimmingpoolparts.blogspot.com. Known as grade #20 silica sand, it has sharp edges to separate particles permitting the filtering process. Debris is forced through the sand bed to become trapped in the miniscule grains of sand. A nice clean sand bed will, at first, filter out the large particles and as the sand bed begins to get saturated with the larger particles it will then begin to trap the very smallest particles of debris. One of the drawbacks of sand filters, they must be cleaned about once a week during swimming season. This is done by a process known as backwashing. Backwashing removes the debris from the sand bed by reversing the flow of water through the filter and into the street. This can mean the loss of hundreds of gallons of water but, must be done to ensure a sparkling clean pool.

Diatomaceous earth filters,(also called DE filters), manufactured by Hayward pool filters, are extremely efficient, but they require more maintenance than a sand filter. Diatomaceous earth is the skeletons of plankton. The gaps it leaves for water to pass through will filter debris down to mere microns. This filter will clog more frequently as it filters much more out of the water. This means backwashing which removes not only the particles of dirt but, also the DE powder which must be replaced. When backwashing is completed you then pour DE powder into the filter basket at the side of the pool which will, due to the suction, coat the filter grids with a new layer of DE powder. DE powder is relatively inexpensive but, costs can increase depending on the size of your pool and your outdoor environment.

A single grain of table salt measures 90 microns. A cartridge filter can trap particles of debris as small as 5 to 10 microns in size. To put that into perspective, anything below 35 microns is invisible to the human eye. Remember too, a small amount of dirt actually aids in the filtering process. Cartridge filters are not as expensive as DE filters but, cost more than sand filters. Hayward pool filters cartridge is easy to maintain. To clean a cartridge filter, turn off the pump, open the air valve at the top of the filter housing, then remove the top half of the housing. Simply lift the filter cartridge out, hose it down until clean, or replace if it's usefulness is up, put it back in the filter housing, making sure it's seated at the bottom, clamp down the top half of the filter housing so that it's an airtight seal and you're ready to turn the pump on.

Hayward pool filters manufactures these different styles of filters in all sizes to fit your pool filtering needs. Hayward pool filters will enable you to enjoy your pool without having to worry about maintenance.

Hayward Pool Products

Hayward pool products offers a complete line of pumps, filters, heaters, cleaners, controls, chlorinators, lighting, replacement parts, and general items for your pool and spa. Hayward is joining the "green" movement by designing all new energy efficient pumps and motors. Hayward pumps and motors are designed to run cooler, provide more volume and filtration with less energy than their competitors, and last a minimum of 35,000 hours or ten years of extended use.

The Northstar pump is a perfect example of Hayward pool products dedication to energy efficiency. The Northstar pump is perfect for your pool/spa combination as well as multi-tiered water features. With 2 inch x 2 1/2 parts and hydraulic engineering the Northstar delivers the water volume you need to run your pool. Low watt usage allows more water turnover with less electricity. The Northstar motor is powder coated with Perma-Coat, an anti-corrosion feature making it more resistant to the environment, especially areas with a salty air environment. (Those of us living in the Florida coastal areas really appreciate that feature).

The Northstar's one and a half horsepower motor delivers the same performance as it's 2 horsepower competitors. It is the lowest decibel motor on the market delivering years of quiet operation. The 220 cubic inch straining basket extends time between cleanings leaving more time for pure enjoyment of your swimming pool. The Northstar's design allows the motor to run 20% cooler and the high profile base elevates the pump for heavy rain environments.

Whether building a brand new swimming pool or having to replace your existing system, check out Hayward pool products and increase the enjoyment of your backyard swimming pool.

Hayward Pump

My wife and I purchased our home here in Florida primarily for one reason...our backyard is a large inground swimming pool surrounded by a screened in cage. (Keeps the bugs out...very important in Florida.) Upon inspecting the pool system I was very pleased to see that our pool was built with a Hayward pump and filter system. Possessing a little bit of knowledge about swimming pool parts I was aware that a hayward pump and hayward pool filter were the top of the line in swimming pool equipment.

Living in Southwest Florida affords my wife and I the pleasure of using our pool almost nine months of the year, and that's without a pool heater. Our pool also gets a lot of use due to two of our grandkids, ages eight and ten, who have to be dragged out of the pool when Mom says it's time to go home.

The swimming pool at our home was built in 1984 with a Hayward pump and Hayward pool filter, for which I am grateful because the system just hums right along and has not given us any trouble whatsoever. Whoever had the swimming pool installed did it right with first class equipment. They also buried the backwash hose from the Hayward pool filter eliminating the annoyance of having to unroll the hose out to the street, perform the backwash process to clean the filter, and roll the hose back in to the filter housing. I know how important it is to keep the pool filter cleaned so that our Hayward pump stays in good running order.

So far this year I have had to backwash our filter three times. The pump runs normally at eight to ten pounds. I backwash our filter when the gauge is reading sixteen pounds. Having a screened in swimming pool greatly reduces the amount of debris getting into our pool and results in low maintenance so I don't have to be concerned about buying to many swimming pool parts. Since I'm the resident pool boy I really like that part. While I don't mind cleaning the pool, I'm more into just laying around and enjoying it preferably in my swimming shorts...especially when we have our one hundred degree days down here in the sunshine state. The Hayward pump and the Hayward pool filter make swimming pool maintenance a walk in the park and I honestly couldn't recommend any other pool maintenance product on the market.
